Lookbook: AKDO
A family company, AKDO was founded in order to keep two brothers connected across the Atlantic Ocean, amid a plethora of personal challenges.
One of those brothers, Hakki Akbulak, was looking for a way that he could start a company with his brother, who was in Turkey and battling a life-threatening illness. Hakki, a born entrepreneur, asked himself:
“What does Turkey have that America needs?”
The answer: beautiful, abundant, natural stone.
AKDO has been importing specialty stone slabs, tiles and handcrafted mosaics for nearly two decades, along with sister company Silkar, which owns three factories in Turkey and China — where stone is processed and crafted into two-and-a-half million square feet per year.
